Deafness is not a deadly disease, but has its own unique problems, and it is very important to be taken seriously. It makes it difficult for a bull terrier to interact with the environment and makes education much more difficult. Individuals who are deaf in one ear may have a completely normal life but it is extremely important that such individual is not used for breeding. All our puppies before going to new homes are BAER tested.
Known variants of renal diseases can occur at any age so it’s important to check your BT regularly. The urine protein creatinine ratio is a simple test that measures how much protein is being lost through the kidneys, and determines if the loss poses a health risk for the pet. The test involves measuring the amount of protein and creatinine in a urine sample, and mathematically dividing the protein value by the creatinine value (UPC test). Genetic test for Polycystic Kidney Disease is now available for Bull Terriers and it will be of great help for the future of the breed.
Heart disease can also be discovered sooner or later and it is therefore of great importance that a specialist cardiologist is monitoring the situation. Patella Luxation test is also important for our breed. Test by mechanical manipulation after one year of age by a veterinarian who is experienced with this. BT’s have a tendency to develop skin problems. If the family tree is free of serious skin conditions, light problems can be prevented or controlled with proper care and nutrition.

As BT’s are sensitive when it comes to skin, it is very important to feed them properly. Industrial or any commercial dry food Is not the best option for your BT. It is better to choose a biologically appropriate solution. Too much grain and also preservatives, additives, chemicals can cause many health problems. What happens in large commercial corporations to produce dog food can be identified with human fast food. Both companies use raw materials lower than average quality that are cheap to produce food, filled with preservatives and toxic chemicals but beautifully packaged to buy and eat.
We all know the dangers that we face as a people if we only eat fast food, and why should dogs be treated differently? Raw dog food consists exclusively of natural raw materials of animal and vegetable origin. Modern dogs are not only able to eat meals like their ancestors in the wild, they need it for maintaining optimal health. Basic dog physiology has changed very little in spite of the obvious differences in their behaviour.
